Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons are a professional basketball team located in Auburn Hills, Michigan. They compete in the Central Division of the NBA's Eastern Conference.

[edit] The Early Years 1940s-1950s

Originally based in Fort Wayne, IN, the Pistons were owned by Fred Zollner. Zollner made his money manufacturing pistons for local auto manufacturers. The team competed in several NBA Finals during this period, but was never able to win the title. George Yardley made a name for himself as a power forward in Fort Wayne.

[edit] Moved to Detroit 1960s-1970s

The team could not recapture its winning ways for several years. Stars included point guard Dave Bing and center Bob Lanier.

[edit] Building a Championship Team 1980s

Under a new general manager, Jack McCloskey, the Pistons began to make several roster changes that reshaped the team. This brought them into playoff contention against eastern conference powers such as the Atlanta Hawks and Boston Celtics.

The Pistons could not seem to get it working from 00-03 but when they aquired Rasheed Wallace from the trail blaizers and ben wallace they went on to win the NBA finals defeating the lakers in a suspensful game seven
